Brief Answer: it is only a myth Detailed Answer: Hello, Welcome to XXXXXXX Thanks for your query. Hypnotism is also called as hypnotherapy. It is considered as a type of complimentary medicine. In this technique the patient enters a trance like state of deeply focused concentration. But the freewill of the patient remains intact and he does not lose control of his behavior.
