Question: Hi, I am taking pain medication for my chronic knee pain, in my case I'm worried about my test being clean. I take my medication , I take Vicodin and methadone, I'm not one that follow direction to the letter , so I miss some once in a while sometimes even 2 dose and I think that should be my choose to do as long as I don't do anything wrong , yet this is how I'm being made to feel , my Vicodin test came out clean saying I did not take any , and I have , I wAs so upset that my doctor of over 20 years ask me who was taking them.? I have been under a lot of stress and my doctor is retiring plus other things , until my doctor called to tell me this I realize I have not been taking my Vicodin for a few days , this has happen before but i never worry about it before until now .I usually just keep my extras for a while then get rid of them by destroying them, I have grandkids and no one in my family takes what I take so I don't need to hang on to them . Now he sent me to a pain clinic and they took a test also, I'm so worried it will come out clean again, and also worried they will measure my methadone , I never had to worry to make sure I take every single dose, I do take my medication and I don't want to keep asking for a different amount every month so, with these new rule on pain management , I get my refill and anything I have left from the month before gets destroyed , simple as that , I never count how many I have left , I try and take as prescribed but I sleep in late sometimes and I'm not working because my knees got worse so it just depends on how my day is going, so my question do I have anything to worry about? Will the test show I'm not taking exactly what I'm told to take . And I'm still upset that my test came out clean when I've been on Vicodin for years and I would think something should have been detected , I know you don't know me and it's only my word but I do take my meds , one would thing I would get I. Trouble if I took more the. I should and now I have to worry about taking every single pill. Plus my retired doctor told this to my new doctor and now I don't feel comfortable with this new doctor .

Share the truth with your treating doctor

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for posting
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.I believe every word that you have shared with me.I always believe my patient. The test may have come clean because you may not have taken drugs few days prior to test.
My suggestion for you would be to share the whole truth with your new doctor. As feeling of pain varies from patient to patient and from day to day,it is patients right when to take medicine and when not.
I am confident your doctor will understand you.
Take care and I shall be glad to help you further.
