Does Steroid Therapy Cause Muscle Growth?

default
Posted on Mon, 26 May 2014
Question: Hi. I had some anabolic steroid therapy when i was 15 for increasing my height. Ive since learned that steroids cause many things to grow such as muscles. Ive also read online that muscle cells do not get replaced. Does this mean, in a way, the steroids i had at 15 has had a permanent effect - since the impact it has had on muscle cells still exists.

Thanks Dr Poola,

Its impact was to aid growth of penile tissue. And this growth still exists today.

So in a way it had a permanent impact on cells, in particular muscle...unless we can say the penile tissue cells, whatever kind, get renewed or replaced. Then we call it a 'renewed' growth.

Please can you advise

Regards,

Brief Answer:
No

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

No, it's impact on penile tissue should not exist till today. I do not think that you need to worry about that. If there is any problem with your penile muscles or tissue, your doctor will look for other problems doing a physical examination.

thank you for answer. Sorry for delay.

I have a query about penis extenders. One on the market called andropenis. These involve wearing for several hours a day for a period of 6 months.

Is it safe to use such devices?

Best Regards

Thank you Dr Poola for your advice,

I have a general question away from urology. Hope you can advise. In our cells, proteins and amino acids exist as organelles. Many literiture i read online say these turnover/renew frequently. but how frequently? hours or days?

Thanks and wishing u all the best.

Brief Answer:
there are some things which can never be replaced

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Sorry for delay in replying.

I can understand your concern. It cannot be generalized that in how may hours or days the cells, proteins and aminoacids etc would renew. It varies from different kinds of them as there are variety of types of cells, organelles etc. Morever, there are some things which can never be renewed or replaced in our body.

I personally think that you need not have to go into such deeper aspects regarding your problem. I suggest to get a physical done and follow the appropriate evaluation plan.

Take Care!
