Scarlet Fever

Hello. I just read through your question.
Scarlet Fever is a bacterial infection. It is caused be the same bacteria that causes Strep Throat. It is typically treated with antibiotic, just like Strep Throat. If it is not treated, however, there is a possibility of developing Acute Rheumatic Fever. This canblead to heart problems.

So in answer to your question, yes, it is possible to develop heart problems as a result of untreated Scarlet Fever.

My daughter is 16, plays soccer for the school and runs about 2 miles a day. She eats a normal teenage diet and does not drink soft drinks or energy drinks of any kind. Today she had a bad ( pouring ) nose bleed starting at 3pm and said it is still dripping occasionally 50 minutes later. She had a headache just before and is now saying her left arm is tingling. I have had terrible nose bleeds from 4 or 5 till I had surgery at 15 then they started again about 6 months ago, at 38. I have also had other illnesses because of rheumatic fever at 5. My daughter is very active and healthy. Should I be worried about the headache and nose bleed?

I ve been sick for weeks. It started with a bad sor throat and cold in my chest. I m 74 yrs old and work three days as a nurse in a residential care facilty..Everyone there has had pneumonia, brochitis or some lung problem..We have arouind 40 residents with one nurse and one cna in the evening..I m small - I weigh around 90# but, I m small boned and 5 1 ..I ve worked hard all my life but as I get older its harder to recover from illnesses..I had back surgery in 2009..(I fell on the ice) and kept working as I didn t think it was as bad as it turned out to be. The back surgery helped but, I still have to have epidurals abouit every three months to keep me going..I m on Avelox 400mg qd..And I m on predisone 40mg x2 wks then 10mg x2 wks. I have this week to go..I ve had a Ct scan of my head..(OK) I had fluid around my heart which I know isn t good..I had rheumatic fever yrs ago and I have a small murmur and a prolasp mitrial valve which was doing really good until I got sick this year. I talked to my Dr re: another Epidural and he was telling me about a lot of patients coming in with what they thought was back pain and it turned out to be Meningitis..Of couse now I m wodering if this is why I have been so sick and what should I do?????

I have Lupus. SLE which is not active as of two months ago, also have Fibromylgia, chronic kidney disease stage 111! I have a Rheum also so my NP earlier this week. But when he saw me my legs were not hurting or not swollen in ankles. As of now my ankles are nor swollen, but my legs are a pain 10+. I know all these things. But I m miserable, not sure if I should go to ER! I took a whole Percocet about 10 mins ago. I even used a pill crusher to get in my system quicker. But they burn a little but the pain is beyond. I know how RLS feels and it is not that. At 4 yrs of age I had Rheumatic fever but at the time I was treated for polio. Then as a teenager that was when that finally found out about the rheumatic fever, heart mummer and small leakage in a heart valve, but they keep a watch on that. I have my legs propped as I type, I feel smoother, I m only yo take Lasix s 20 mg twice a day if need. But It doesn t help me. Do you think if the pain med doesn t take affect I should go to the ER? I have a lot of health issues going on, but at this point. Not dangerously. Also my NP is doing a ultrasound on my bladder Friday. Due to the fact I am not getting rid of all my urine, just took my last Cipro last night.
