Posted on Mon, 1 Jun 2015
Question: I have asthma and need a rescue inhaler. I am on Medi Cal but have not been assigned a doctor. I'm not sick enough to justify going to the ER yet . Is this viable option.

Brief Answer:
Start short acting beta 2 agonist (SABA).

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on HCM.
I can understand your situation and problem.
Asthma treatment is having two type of medicines.
1. Controller
2. Rescuer.
Rescuer medicines are taken in an emergency situation because their effects are very quick in onset and short lasting.
So for this purpose, you should take short acting beta 2 agonist (SABA). Commonly used drugs for this purpose are salbutamol and levosalbutamol.
So you can start inhaler having salbutamol or levosalbutamol.
If still you are not relieved then better to consult pulmonologist and get done PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health.
Thanks.
