Does Rectocele Cause Diarrhea?

default
Posted on Thu, 19 May 2016
Question: I have been diagnosed with a cystocyle and rectocyle , neither of which is apparently severe enough for surgery. Now I am experiencing loose non-formed bowel movements (last 7-10 days). A lot. Is this a complication of my diagnosis or do I need to see a gastroenterologist for further evaluation?

Brief Answer:
diarrhea not associated with the rectocele or cystocele

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCN with your health concerns

You have had diarrhea now for 7 days and you are concerned that the rectocele or cystocele is the cause of your diarrhea. The short answer is no. The rectocele is a pouching out of the rectum into the vaginal vault and the cystocele is the bladder pouching out into the vaginal vault too. These conditions do not cause any problems other than can cause constipation issues or bladder issues with difficulty urinating completely.

Your diarrhea is probably caused by a viral illness possible Norovirus or other infectious agent. To help stop the diarrhea first avoid all milk and milk products as a lactose intolerance will perpetuate the diarrhea. Add kaopectate or use imodium to help reduce the stool frequency and firm up your stools. If these interventions do not help then I recommend seeing your medical provider for additional testing to the cause of you diarrhea.

In summary
1. Rectocele and cystocele not the cause for diarrhea
2. Possible norovirus or other infectious agent
3. Avoid milk and all milk products
4. try imodium and kaopectate
5. If no improvement see your medical provider
