Posted on Tue, 29 Apr 2014
Question: Sir, (sorry for poor English) I(male-42yr, wght-81kg, having normal health, no chronic disease) visited a massage parlour in Thailand on 27th OCt-2013, done unprotected oral sex and had cunnling on her vagina(around) through our tongue for maximum two/three minute. I did not felt any things on my tongue on that time . But after some time (around 30 min), I felt some sticky lubricant with different type of taste on my tongue. Immediately I washed my tongue with warm water. But I had not done vaginal/anal sex or full intercourse with her. Details of dates of symptoms----- Date of exposure- 27-10-13 1. First feeling of tasteless/dry mouth – After 4week/29days (on 25-11-13) 2. Night sweat started – After 4week 3. Also felt mild fever (98F) in night from 4th week only 2/3 days 4. A cold blist appeared in left corner of lips for 4/5 days from 5th week 5. Also felt some vague feeling like wiron in body from 4th week 6. Pain/tingling/Inflamation dryness in mouth and tongue – After 5 week /37 days 7. Swollen Lymph nodes(under the both jaw line) felt – After 7th week/ 52days. 8. feeling little tonsils. 9. Normal appetite/abdomen function. Symptoms nos 1/2/6/7 are still continued. But still I have not gone for HIV test. But I had test for WBC and CD4 after 15th week (on 5th FEB’2014), which was WBC-7200, CD4-436. I have also gained weight 5kg in last five month. It is almost 23week(157 days) passed but burning/tingling/pain in mouth, swollen lymph nodes under the jaw line, night sweating and some irregular pain in shoulder and thigh muscle are being continued Is it the symptoms of HIV infection. So pl help and guide me to get rid of from this anxiety.

Brief Answer: Symptoms are not specific to HIV.Test suggested. Detailed Answer: Hi, Welcome to HCM. Thanks for posting your query. I can understand your concern. Oral sex carries the lowest risk compared to anal or vaginal intercourse. All your symptoms explained by you are not specific to HIV. They can occur with any throat infection. Moreover, cold blister can occur to anybody with or without HIV. Gaining weight or losing weight in early days has no inference about HIV. Instead of analyzing your symptoms whether they could be due to HIV or not, you can go for a HIV test. After seeing the negative result you will be relieved mentally. Get well soon. Dr S.Murugan

Brief Answer: WBC normal. RA factor not related to HIV Detailed Answer: Hi, Welcome back. 1.WBC 7200 is within normal limit. CD4 436 is also not bad and there are reasons other than HIV for this comparative low level. May be a transient one. 2. Weight loss in HIV is a symptom occurring only after 5-7 years of infection not an early symptom. 3 RA factor positive can occur to anybody and has no relation to HIV. 4.Saliva, tear, urine, spit, vomitus, nasal secretions are not infectious. 5.HIV can not be viable outside the body not more than few minutes. There is no definite time duration . Once the secretion gets dried HIV will die. 5. Regarding your symptoms the physician who examined you is the right person to tell more about your oral condition. 7. As you have a very little risk for HIV through oral sex, it is better to have a HIV test and confirm your HIV negative status before resuming sex with your wife. Dr S.Murugan

Brief Answer: HIV not spread through inanimate objects. Detailed Answer: Hi, Welcome back. 1.Sharing bed, linen, utensils, bath room, Toilets, Wash basins, computer, phones all household items have no risk for HIV at all even if anybody got infected with HIV. Instead of worrying, analyzing and researching, it is simple to have HIV test and rule out HIV ( As HIV is unlikely for you through Oral sex), and get relaxed. Otherwise you will keep on worrying. 2. Till you get tested stick to safe sex with your wife is the safe measure. 3. Consult a Dental surgeon and rule out any oral problem that can cause the sub mandibular lymph node swelling. Dr S.Murugan
