default
Posted on Thu, 25 Sep 2014
Question: I broke out with a rash last Friday that started mild on my face. It is now on my on side of neck, forehead, and into scalp. I went to er and got a shot and a script for prednisone. I am seeing my dermatologist tomorrow. I am taking benedryl tablets and using benedryl lotion. I got my script for prednisone yesterday and am taking them now. My face is still on fire. Can an adult get measles again after having them as a child?

No, cannot get again after infection previously

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.

I am Dr. Prakash HM and I will be answering your query.

Measles do not recur.

Once infected, immune for life.

However, if vaccinated, inadequate dosage can lead to measles.

Hope it helps.

Any further queries, happy to help again.

Can dermatologist do a test to determine what the allergy is? The burning is excessive and so is the itching. I am using the benedryl gel but is not working. Cannot sleep because of burning and itching. Any more suggestions for relief. I am also putting damp cloth on my face.

Brief Answer:
Yes, they might do or refer to lab

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking again.

Yes, Dermatologist can do a patch test or you might be referred to a laboratory to get it done.

However, if a specific allergic agent is suspected, then only it will be easy. Otherwise, its a very long list.

As it is in sun exposed areas, causes other than allergy could also be present. However, treatment is still the same. Continue the treatment.

To reduce itching and burning feeling, antihistamine like cetrizine during or hydroxyzine during night could be helpful.

Do consult your doctor for prescription.

Hope it helps.
