Does Kidney Stones Cause Cloudy Urine?

default
Posted on Thu, 30 Oct 2014
Question: I take supplements and have noticed that I occasionally have cloudy urine, not dark in color mostly in the morning when I first wake up. Urine is clear and back to normal after drinking lots of water. I do have occasional kidney stones and UTIs but do not have symptoms at this time. I did have a stomach but and took malox for a couple of days. Any B supplements or other supplements that could be causing occasional cloudy urine?

Brief Answer:
Yes it can.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for asking.
I am Dr. Jyothi BL and I will be answering your query.

Looking at your query, my opinion is as follows:

1. Excessive water soluble vitamin intake is excreted in urine. As it is present in particulate form, it can give the appearance of cloudy urine.

2. High dosage vitamin B complex and vitamin C does cause cloudy urine.

3. More commonly presence of RBC is known to cause cloudy urine. However, as it is not related to UTI or kidney stones, we can safely rule out RBC as a cause of cloudy urine.

4. Reduced water intake overnight can lead to dehydration making it concentrated urine. More particulates in it, can show it as cloudy.

However, not to worry. Water soluble vitamins are not toxic. Fat soluble vitamins like Vit A, D, E, K can have toxic side effects.

Any further queries, happy to help again.
