Does Intake Of Susten During Pregnancy Lead To Pseudohermaphroditism?
Question: Hello Doctor,
Does susten 200 mg cause female like characteristics or hypospadias in boy fetus .If so is it the dose or the length of time susten is taken which has such effects for example is it high dose of susten in first trimester or low dose whole pregnancy.

Susten contains progesterone, a hormone that favors pregnancy.
It does not cause pseudohermaphroditism or the mentioned signs. Susten is given in anticipation of any unfavorable outcome such that the pregnancy remains safe.
However it is a medicine very frequently misused by gynecologists i.e. given even when there is no actual indication. If started it is usually given one tablet twice daily and continued into the second trimester. However, even if it is not essential, it does not harm your pregnancy.
