Hello and welcome,

Irbesartan can cause an upset stomach, particularly when patients first start to take it. This often gets better, but if it doesn't, then it is time to talk with your doctor about it and possibly change to a different medication.

A bad taste in the mouth is not a common side effect, however if you are having an upset stomach, it's possible that some silent acid reflux is happening, which can taste bitter or sour.

Also, it's possible to have side effects that are not listed in the drug literature. So if the bad taste in the mouth started within a short time after you began this medication, then it is likely that they are tied together.

By stomach upset, I assume you mean your stomach rather than intestinal upset (diarrhea, constipation, gas, abdominal cramping). You can try Zantac 150 mg twice a day for a few days and see if that takes care of both problem. Zantac is an acid reducer and is a safe medication. If it helps, consider taking it for a couple of weeks and then decrease to 1 time/day for a week, then off. If the irbesartan is a new medication for you, the stomach upset problem may be over by then.

I hope this information helps.
