Does Intake Of Crestor Help In Treating High Cholesterol Levels?

default
Posted on Fri, 19 Aug 2016
Question: I have been taking statins for high cholesterol since 2000 and changed from Lipitor to Crestor several years ago because of aches in my legs. That feeling has now returned and I had a friend who also has had the same issues mention something called statin toxicity and his doctor put him on some other sort of drug which isn't supposed to cause the aches. I do take CoQ 10 (200 mg) each day which, I'm told, is supposed to counteract the bad effects of the statins (I also take Fenofibrate 145mg and a generic for Crestor 10mg at night before bed). Would like to get more exercise now that I just retired but it seems to take at least 3-4 days to recover from my good bike rides. I'm 67 years old at this point. Thanks for your help. Brief Answer:
There are a few things to consider.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing to Health Care Magic, I am Dr Muhammd Ahmad, I have closely read your question and I understand your concerns, I will hereby guide you regarding your health related problem.

It can be beacuse of two things here.

1) High altitude.
2) Allergy due to some allergen in your new area.

You can not do anything about high altitude though, it will subside with time as your body gets used to low oxygen but if it is some allegy you can recover from it with very simple life style modifications and meds.

1) Use respiratory mask.
2) Steam inhalation does help opening up nose.
3) Use tablet Alegra-D this will help with nasal congestion.
4) Use tablet citerizine 10mg daily at night this will cover up the allergy.

If these measures doesn't help in 3-4 days just pay a visit to some medical facility to get yourself checked up. There shouldn't be anything of big concern but still taking care is the best thing one can do.

When the patient is having body aches or even without them Crestor and Fenofibrate have serious interaction together which might cause liver damage and muscle break down, I would suggest you to discuss this interaction with your doctor about change of drug you may use crestor with ezitimibe .

fenofibrate ↔ rosuvastatin
Applies to:fenofibrate and Crestor (rosuvastatin)

Using fenofibrate together with rosuvastatin can increase the risk of side effects such as liver damage and a rare but serious condition called rhabdomyolysis that involves the breakdown of skeletal muscle tissue. In some cases, rhabdomyolysis can cause kidney damage.

secondly as far As Qco is concerned it is not FDA approved as such for statin caused myalgias. And there is no extensive research present regarding it. Indication if this drug is controversial and debated.

Best course of action here would be to discuss about interactions of the drug with your doctor. To eat balanced diet with healthy protein . To sake safe vitamins like vitamin D and calcium supplementation and then see how things progress for your. This will be a gradual process of healing of muscles.

I hope this answered your question, if you have more feel free to ask, otherwise close the discussion and rate it.
