Does Intake Of Celexa Help In Curing Major Depressive Disorder?

default

Question: Hi. I guess we have discussed my taking celexa previously. But possibly the neck fusion issue and other concerns have gotten to me. I have been on celexa now for almost a month, part of which was on 10 mg. Now on 20 mg. It does not yet seem to have had any effect on my mood and the disturbing symptom of tearing (crying?). That's the part I hate the most. I'm not thinking of anything negative. The tears just flow. The continuing neck spasms don't help when the drs.can't provide a med for pain. CBT is just getting started and I guess I have held back on celexa a bit hoping a non-medication approach would help. Although the eye dr didn't see me he doubts I have blocked tear ducts. I seems like crying to me. Not allergies. Anyway, if what I have is a major depressive disorder, is celexa a good choice for me a should I stick with it? . I am getting discouraged with a lack of progress.

Brief Answer:
Hello and I'm sorry you are having this difficulty

Detailed Answer:
Celexa is an excellent choice for major depression. However, it does not work for everyone. The standard is to be on 20 mg for a month before changing or adding medication. I think though if you have not seen any improvement then it might be time to try another medication. You could ask your doctor about another SSRI or a different type of medication like Wellbutrin or Effexor. Cymbalta may be a good alternative for you since it also seems to help with pain. Please continue with the CBT and go to emergency if you have any thoughts of suicide.
I wish you the best.
