Does Intake Of Alli Effect The Hormone Levels?

default
Posted on Fri, 24 Jun 2016
Question: I am due to have some blood tests to investigate why I am not conceiving, test will be days 1-5, 20 and 27 of my cycle. I am taking Alli along with healthy diet as my BMI is a little high and I may not get further help with my fertility if I don't shift some pounds.
Basically my question is will the Alli pills effect my test results/ hormone levels?
I only intend to take these pills for a month

Brief Answer:
Alli will not affect your hormone levels and may lower your cholesterol

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and I will be happy to answer your question today.

Alli is a medication that decreases your absorption of fat and oil from your diet. It will not affect your hormone levels, however because it decreases your fat absorption your cholesterol levels may lower while taking this medication.

The blood tests that you are going to have her most likely testing your estrogen, progesterone, FSH, and LH levels none of which are affected by the Alli. However, your body fat produces extra estrogen, which can interfere with ovulation, so if anything losing weight and taking Alli will improve your hormonal profile.

Is recommended that you follow a low fat diet while taking Alli to avoid unpleasant side effects, and take a multivitamin daily because Alli will decrease the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins like E,A,D and K.

It will be beneficial for you to lose weight both to increase your chances of conceiving, and to have a healthy pregnancy once you do.

I hope I was able to adequately answer your question today, and that my advice was helpful. If you need any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best wishes,

Dr. Brown
