Does Inner Ear Infection Cause Dizziness?

default
Posted on Wed, 20 May 2015
Question: I have been having issues with my ears for several months. My dr., as well as many other clinicians have diagnosed as inner ear infections and 2 weeks eustachian tube blockage and it was recommended that I see an ENT. My doctor referred me to an ENT, and I had my appointment a week ago (after being on antibiotics and flonase for 8 days). The ENT waved off my concerns and told me that because I am not a child there is no way I could have that many ear infections and I did not have one currently. He told me that TMJ could mimic the ear infection symptoms (true)...however that doesnt explain the extreme vertigo and nausea I have been experiencing with the ear infections diagnosed. I am at a loss...after having been dismissed by a specialist...I am in trouble with my job (the vertigo and nausea make it hard to drive to work let alone work all day). Right now I have a lump behind my ear that smells like pus, my ears are itchy and tender, the left side of my neck is tender and I am frequently dizzy.

2. Most of the clinicians have a wrong notion and think that all the cases of dizziness is due to ear problems.

3. Before giving my opinion, I need to know more about your problem.
a. Since how many days are you suffering from this?
b. Is your dizziness like spinning around sensation or just imbalance?
c. What triggers your dizziness? Rolling over the bed, getting up from sitting position, walking, bending, etc.
d. Is your dizziness associated with headache?
e. Is your dizziness followed by ringing in the ears, vomiting and reduction of hearing?
f. For how long does the episode of dizziness last?
g. Any associated neck pain or earache or ear discharge?
h. Did your ENT specialist do any ear tests, CTscan or MRI?
i. Do you suffer from any cardiac related problems?
j. Do you have recurrent nasal block or breathing difficulty?

If you could kindly reply for the above questions, I would be able to help you in a better way.
