default
Posted on Wed, 7 May 2014
Question: I been mild hypothyroid for 10 years. I have not taken anything for it, just had blood work done and im really hypothyroid 11.9. did a ultrasound and found a good size nodule. 3.48cm. blood pressure 150\80. so im on bp meds for only 2 weeks. have not started anything for thyroid, doc wanted to do bp meds 1st. then thyroid meds after 2 weeks for she would know which one if I had a bad reaction with. did a ekg and it showed incomplete right bundle and left axis, anterior fascicular block. could that abnormal ekg be because of the hypothyroidism. could the high blood pressure be do to the thyroid also. if so, shouldn't the doc started with the thyroid meds 1st. and then see what bp adjust too and then have me see a heart doctor.

Brief Answer: HBP unlikely to be caused by hypothroidism. Detailed Answer: Hi and thank you so much for this query. I am so sorry to hear about this hypothyroidism and recent diagnosis of high blood. Fro the information you have provided, there is need for you to get treated for hypothyroidism. TSH at 11.9 is too high and something needs to be done in this regard. Your doctor maybe right on introducing medications one at a time but 2weeks already is sufficient time to have started treatment for the other conditions. Hypothyroidism commonly causes cholesterol abnormalities. I will like that you get your numbers checked and managed accordingly if need be. It is unlikely for hypothyroidism to cause high blood pressure. low blood pressure and a slow heart rate are rather common when talking of hypothyroidism. A solitary nodule is not typical of goiter which is a complication of untreated hypothyroidism. Ask you doctor if he were referred to an enlarged thyroid or just part of it because these findings are not typical. Nodules are rather more common when talking about hyperthyroidism and possible cancers. It is about time you start getting treated for this hypothyroidism. the wait has been too long and the complications may be on the way sHi and thank you so much for this query.
