Does Exposure To Paint Fumes Cause Rise In Blood Pressure Level?

default
Posted on Mon, 22 Dec 2014
Question: My blood pressure has always been normal (120's/70's). I have it checked 3-4 times a year. Today it was 150/90. Could exposure to fresh oil based paint cause such an increase in BP? Painters have spent the last three days repainting our home interior.

Brief Answer:
not a known side effect

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is not a known side effect of inhalation of paint fumes.

Most commonly the side effects involve the respiratory , central nervous system and in some cases irritation of the eyes and skin.
Respiratory symptoms would be shortness of breath and coughing.
Central nervous system symptoms would be dizziness and confusion.

It is not normally a cause of increased blood pressure.

If the painting was associated with any increase in stress or anxiety , it may contribute the symptoms but not as a side effect of the paint itself.

You should have it rechecked in a few days to see if it is still elevated.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
