Brief Answer:
do lab tests for iron levels.

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXX, welcome to HCM and thanks for choosing us. I share your concerns about acid reflux, iron levels and ice chewing. All three are related in different ways.

Cold items are natural remedies for acid reflux. So eating ice will help in controlling your acid reflux symptoms.

Iron requires acid in stomach for its better absorption. So if you reduce your acid levels by chewing more ice , it may affect your iron absorption and can lead to anaemia.

Morever craving for ice is symptom of anaemia (iron deficiency).

So in my opinion iron deficiency is causing this craving for ice in your case. Please do your laboratory tests to know about iron levels. If it is low please visit your physician. However don't take antacids for your acid reflux for longer times as it will again impair iron absorption. Your physician will be able to guide you in better way. If antacids are must, give enough time between iron tablet and antacids tablets.

I hope my reply will benefit you. Please write to us for follow up queries. I wish you good health. Thanks. Kindly rate this reply.
