Brief Answer:
Complex interaction between steroid level and anxiety attacks

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing to us.I understood from your query that you want to know that your anxiety symptoms are there due to abnormality in adrenal gland or not?

You have read right that adrenal problem can cause anxiety symptoms you are suffering. However there is complex interaction between anxiety symptoms and cortisol level. Panic disorder itself can cause reflex increase in cortisol level. And excess cortisol secretion by adrenal also causes anxiety symptoms.

I your case IBS and fibromyalgia are also related related to some variation in cortisol level and anxiety symptoms.

From available history it is difficult to tell about your adrenal status clinical point of view.(However your treating doctor must have thought for the same from clinical point of view that you do not have any adrenal problem and you have panic disorder only)

To evaluate the picture you should undergo adrenal hormones testing (Aldosterone, Cortisol, 18-Hydroxycortisol, DHEA-S). As well as ultrasound of adrenal glans will help to check visible pathology if any.
Also go for Serum Vitamin B12 level, vitamin D level and thyroid hormone testing as abnormality of the same are also associated with anxiety symptoms.

Hope this answer is helpful.

Revert back to me with test reports if you have any.
And also let me know details about panic disorder and mood disorder like onset, duration, frequency of panic attacks and stress factors.

Regards,
Dr.Chintan Solanki.
