Does A Lymphoma Show Up In The Blood Test Report?

default
Posted on Wed, 9 Nov 2016
Question: I had bloodwork done about 6 weeks ago. Would there be any results on there that would have been a clue that I had lymphoma? (That's what surgeon thinks it is) If there is anything I can look for on the lab results, what would it be? I have a copy of the results. In looking at symptoms for lymphoma, I really do not have any except the swollen lymph glands. I have had stomach/digestion issues since bariatric surgery in 2001 and it has been ongoing all these years. No changes. I have lost 90 lbs since XXXXXXX 2015, but attributed that to total change in diet and hyperthyroid condition.

Brief Answer:
Look for the blood counts

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.

Lymphoma may not necessarily show up anything on blood work. There nay be low hemoglobin, low or high leucocyte counts and low platelet count. Serum LDH may be high.

These alterations are found only in a small proportion. Otherwise, the biopsy only is confirmatory.

Hope this helps.
Regards
