Does A Bruised Toenail Require Medical Consultation?

Posted on Mon, 16 Oct 2017
Question: I bruised my left big toe about 5 months ago. I never had it xrayed. All of the swelling went away and there isn't any pain but the bruising on my toenail never went away. Should I be concerned or will it eventually heal on its own?

Brief Answer:
It will heal on its own.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The bruising on the toe nail is the left over pigment of the blood that collected at this point at the time of injury. This color will gradually fade away on its own. In case there is any numbness in the toe or the coloration is increasing or painful then you need to consult a physician for an examination.
I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
