default
Posted on Mon, 13 Apr 2015
Question: I have a very strong cancer history on both sides of my family. Dad's mom had lung cancer, a great aunt had breast cancer and on my mom's side 6 out of 7 have has various cancers as well as my grandmother had COPD and my grandfather had leukemia. I am a 38 year old female who previously smoked (approx. 1 pack a day for 5 years) about 13 years ago, however I have been exposed to secondhand smoke from my parents until I moved out and married almost 11 years ago. Recently I had a chest CT scan and they found a 2 CM nodule in my right lung. What are the chances this could be cancerous?

Brief Answer:
Lung nodule 2 cm or smaller has only 5% of chances to be cancerous

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Lung nodules that are 3 cm or larger has chances to be cancerous than smaller ones.

Since you have had a history of family cancer and cigarette smoking i would advise you to wait for 1 month and then repeat CT scan of chest.

2 cm or smaller lung nodule has only 5% chance to be cancerous and it is more likely be due to some infection in your chest.

I would advise you to take tablet levoflox 500 mg once a day after food for 5 days with your doctors advise.

If the lung nodule changed in size, shape or appearance after 1 month in CT scan then i would advise you to do a biopsy test.
