Does L-Lysine Help In Treating Shingles?

Question: Hi, my best friend has developed shingles and an allergic reaction to the shingles. so shingles and a complicated rash. The health food store has recommended l-lysine to ease symptoms but as a nurse I know better than to just ship something off to her in good faith. I know it is an amino acid. Will that and any other supplements help her get thru this crisis? I will follow your advice, thank you, XXXXXXX YYYY@YYYY

I am so sorry to hear about this shingles attack that your friend has. It is rather unfortunate. Though most severe cases can be rescued and healing accelerated with rapid initiation of acyclovir, it remains a pretty concerning disease condition still. Lysine will help her in the recovery process though she can still fight here way through without necessarily using this. It is definitely not harmful in any way and we would rather enjoy the possible gains than miss out on them.
