Question: My wife was taking Krimson 35 for a three month course, she completed it on 12 April and after four days she had her periods on 16 April and she again had period on 29 april, we have not had unprotected sex till 27 may, on 28 may we had unprotected sex and after 60 hours she had taken Unwanted 72 contraceptive pill, earlier if she took contraceptive pill she gets her period within two days but till now she didn't. Is there any chance of pregnancy or it is because of discontinious of Krimson 35?

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
After completing the pack of Krimson 35 , she did have her period as expected on the 16th of April.
What she experienced on 29th April could be because the body was adjusting to the stoppage of Krimson 35.
Has she always had regular periods ?
Unwanted 72 is not a contraceptive pill.
Krimson 35 is a contraceptive pill.
Unwanted 72 is an emergency contraceptive pill.
It has a well known side effect of causing irregular periods.
It can prepone or postpone her periods by a week, sometimes even more.
So most probably the cause of the delayed period is because of the intake of Unwanted 72.
Chances of pregnancy are less because you had unprotected sex very close to her next period, when chances of ovulation are remote.
Also, Unwanted 72 when taken within 72 hours is more than 80 % effective in preventing a pregnancy.
I think she would have her period within the next week, if she has always had regular cycles.
Please take a pregnancy test by the 12th of XXXXXXX if she does not menstruate by then.
All the best

Detailed Answer:
While you are on Krimson 35, emergency contraception is not needed.
Anyways, you did not take both together , so you do not need to worry.
Yes, irregular periods generally indicate that ovulation is irregular and unpredictable.
She should have an assessment for irregular periods.
A formal internal checkup - per vaginum and per speculum, plus a pelvic transvaginal ultrasound scan.
Hormonal levels - FSH, LH, TSH, Prolactin, OGTT, DHEAS, Free testosterone, Lipid profile.
This would reveal a diagnosis and then treatment can be taken accordingly.
I suspect that she might be having PCOD - Polycystic Ovarian Disease.
If overweight, she should lose weight.
Reduce stress.
