Does Inositol Interact With Glycine And L-Theanine?

default
Posted on Wed, 1 Feb 2017
Question: I have an 8 year old boy (70lb) with ocd and adhd. We have been using myo-inositol (9g/day) with great success. I would like to start giving gylcine and suntheanine l-theanine suppliments as well. Could the gylcine and/or l-theanine given along with the inositol cause serotonine syndrome? Also what doses of these would be safe?

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

Glycine and L-theanine combined with inositol will almost certainly not cause serotonin syndrome. Serotonin syndrome is exceedingly rare, and usually only occurs when an MAO inhibitor is combined with a serotonergic medication. So, the standard over-the-counter doses of these supplements will be safe.

Thanks so much for your answer. What would be the maximum dosage of glycine and l-theanine you would recommend for an 8-1/2 year old child (70lb) currently taking 9g/day of myo-inositol.

Since he is a child, no more than 1g of glycine and 100mg of L-theanine.
