Does Benadryl Have Any Adverse Effects On Individuals With Susceptible Pheochromocytoma?
Question: The ER Dr thinks its possible I may have a pheochromocytoma. I go to the Endocrinologists in a few days for some testing. I have been unable to sleep at all for several days due to the flushing and blood pressure spikes. If I take Benadryl will it increase the affects of the tumor if that's what I actually have?

To the best of my knowledge of published medical literature , Benadryl has not been reported to have any adverse effect on individuals with potentially unknown pheochromocytoma. However it can cause blood pressure changes particularly low blood pressure ('hypotension ') and palpitations and chest pain. These happen to be the main features of pheochromocytoma also. So it would not be prudent to use Benadryl if there is a suspicion of pheochromocytoma.
