Posted on Wed, 1 Mar 2017
Question: My daughter just tested positive for Lyme, she is 11, but very small. She has never even been on an antibiotic her entire life. We can't decide which antibiotic to start her on. Doxy 100mg bid, or amoxicillin 500 aid? Any research to support the best choice. We believe she is within the first 30 days of exposure.

Brief Answer:
Your daughter is 11 and Doxycycline is ruled out

Detailed Answer:
Hi welcome to Health care magic,

Your daughter is 11 and Doxycycline is ruled out till she is 14 years, or her teeth will get discolored.

So Amoxycycline, Augmentin or Cephalosporins are the answer.

I will go with Amoxycycline since it is best tolerated out of the three, and depending on response switch to either of the other two if needed.

But do give her Ranitidine to prevent acidity.

You can revert back.
