Do Urination Urge, Itching And Discomfort While Urination Indicate UTI?

default
Posted on Tue, 24 Feb 2015
Question: Im concerned I have a UTI but the symptoms were present for three day last week went away for the three days and now came back. I was taking cranberry supplements and drinking a lot of water and seemed to help. Symptoms were just urgency to urinate without really needing to, an itching/sharp feeling of having to pee upon waking up in the morning and mild discomfort when urinating. After urinating I still have a strange sensation and very uncomfortable. No stomach pain or any other symptoms.

Brief Answer:
UTI is very common in females of your age group.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

UTI is very common in females of your age group. Symptoms you are describing are very much consistent with UTI. You need a urinalysis test to confirm and to start empiric (Broad Spectrum) antibiotic therapy.

Drinking a lot of water helps but if there is infection, antibiotics are must.

Thanks!

Only because I'm paranoid and also sexually active. Does this in any way sound like the start of anything STD related ? I've never had one but also have always been in a monogamous relationship. Having odd symptoms just worries me.

Brief Answer:
Symptoms you mentioned are more likely to be UTI and unlikely be an STD

Detailed Answer:
Symptoms you mentioned are more likely to be UTI and unlikely be an STD. However, only based on symptoms, we cannot confirm diagnosis.

Anyhow, as there is no risky sexual behavior, there is no point in suspecting an STD with these symtoms.

Hope it helps!
