Do Proton Pump Inhibitors Help In Treating Alcohol Induced GERD?

Question: Hello, can PPI's help alcohol induced GERD? Is it true that GERD XXXXXXX caises by too little stomach acid? I am taking Nexium. Can that worsen my GERD based on reducing stomach acid? I get chest pain if I drink too much but subsides after my "hangover" passes. It also seems to get better if I take my Nexium regularly.

NO, GERD is a condition in which the stomach contents refluxes in to the stomach causing symptoms. The stomach contents are usually acidic. PPI suppresses acid production. So they help in reducing the symptoms of GERD especially the acid reflux. They do not worsen your GERD.
