Do Hydrosalpinx Shrink And Disappear On Their Own?

default
Posted on Fri, 26 Dec 2014
Question: I am a 53 year old, premenopausal women 15 years post hysterectomy/oophectomy. I have recently been diagnosed with a left side hydrosalpinx and other cysts.I am being monitored with regular ultrasound exams and have had an MRI. I experience significant pelvic pain, pressure, and other Cramp like pain upon urination and bowel movements. In the last six months I have had several vaginal infections. Do hydrosapinxs shrink and disappear on their own? What is the usual treatment for a hydrosalpinx given my symptoms?

I had a hysterectomy because of endometriosis and it was falling out. At the time, both ovaries remained however due to a dermoid cyst my right ovary was removed in 2002. My left ovary remains intact. My age, an elevated FSH level and irregular night sweats lead me to believe that menopause is not far off.

Brief Answer:
Hydrosalpinx is not cause for symptoms

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I read your query and I understand your concerns.

Following is my reply

1. Hydrosalpinx in your case is because you underwent hysterectomy. Remaining portion of Fallopian tubes have got fluid filled in and hence lead to hydrosalpinx.

2. This is normal finding and has got nothing to do with your symptoms.

3. I presume these symptoms are more related to menopausal phase rather than hydrosalpinx.

4. You can benefit by getting treated with hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

5 .Please start HRT with your doctor's advice. The symptoms should be get corrected with HRT.

6. There is no need to worry about hydrosalpinx.
