Thanks for your query. Based on the facts that you have posted, it appears that your mother in law is suffering from Renal Cell Carcinoma of the Right Kidney with secondary in Adrenal gland and Iliac bone.

The ideal treatment for Renal cell carcinoma is Radical Nephrectomy followed by Chemotherapy. However, this can not be thought of since she has already undergone Left sided Nephrectomy for some benign condition.

At present, she is on anti cancer drug Sutent (Sunitinib). This drug is known to decrease the size of the tumour especially Renal Cell Carcinomas, which is evident from her successive C.T scan reports.
In view of she having only one kidney, you have no other option but to continue the same medication, but do not expect the tumour to regress completely.

Hope I have answered your query.
Please feel free to ask if you have any more questions I shall be happy to help you.
Thanks with Regards.

thank you doctor , i was wondering what are the side effects of sutent and is it the only option ? she feels dezzy most of the time and there is a pain in her leg bone , is that from sutent or from cancer ?

is the cancer already spread all over the body ? can we remove the part where the tumor is ??

thanks again for your co operation

Thanks for follow up.

Since she has a tumor in Central portion of the Kidney it is technically not possible to remove the tumor by what is called as Partial Nephrectomy which is carried out for tumors in either lower or upper part of the kidney.

Her cancer is in advanced stage and spread to distant location like iliac bone and Adrenal Gland on opposite side hence only removal of the primary tumor will not be helpful at all.

This drug (Sutent) is safe for Renal Cell Carcinomas and has side effects like cardiac problem and generalized weakness due to decrease in W.B.C count which is common with almost all chemotherapeutic agents.

Her pain in leg may be due to metastasis in iliac bone.

There is no option but to continue the drug that she is taking.

Thanks and Regards.
