Hi Mr XXXXXXX

Thank you for posting your query and asking for medical help.

I have gone through your mail in detail.

At present, your symptoms are suggestive of mild cognitive impairment (MCI), in which memory impairment is the main problem. Other brain functions are either normal or only minimally affected.

Possible causes for your problem include:

1. Vitamin B12 deficiency- please check a blood test for serum vitamin B12 level.

2. Minor seizures- since you had tapeworm infection of the brain earlier, sometimes, the healed parasite infection (granuloma) can cause seizures. EEG test would help in that. Untreated seizures can give rise to memory problems.

3. Thyroid problems- please do a blood test- Thyroid profile.

4. Stress- if you have stress in day to day life, then minimize it, and your memory would improve.

5. Lack of adequate sleep can also cause memory problems.

I hope it helps. Please get back if you have any more queries.

Best wishes,

Hi,

Thank you for getting back.

MCI may lead to dementia, but at present, you do not have dementia.

MRI of brain may also be done, which would be helpful.

You could get all these tests done at Bangalore, Elbit Diagnostics. For any help and appointments, please call Mr XXXXXXX at 0000.

Tests required are:

1. MRI BRAIN,
2. EEG,
3. Serum vitamin B12 level
4. Thyroid profile

Please take a printout of this and give my reference, these tests will be done.

Please send me the reports once you get them.

Thank you for getting back with reports.

The report shows severe deficiency of vitamin B12. This can explain all your problems.
MRI brain, EEG and thyroid reports are normal.

Following treatment would be beneficial in your case:
1. Inj. METHYCOBAL (vitamin B12) 500 micrograms on alternate days for 20 days (total 10 injections), taken in the muscle (IM)
2. CAP. NUROKIND PLUS 1 daily for one month.

You can get these prescribed by a general physician.

Thank you for getting back.

1. Taking injections are preferable, as many people can not absorb the vitamin in the gut, due to presence of antibodies.

2. Treatment would go on for about six months at least, and later on, depending on your symptoms, and vitamin B12 level, we could decide.
