Dark, Itchy Rashes On Buttocks And Sore Bump Outside Anal Area. Took Medicine. What's Going On?

default
Posted on Tue, 19 Feb 2013
Question: I've had a rash on my buttocks along the crack and has spread outward on the left cheek. It is scaly, dark, itches and secretes pus. I've had ongoing issues with hemorrhoids aggravated by diverticulitis and currently, have a small sore bump outside the anal area.
Have used many different creams including cortizone based which haven't helped. Have scheduled a doctor's appt. for next week, but would like some idea of what's going on now. Take Praxa (was changed over from warfarin about 1 yr. ago) , Lialo, Losartan and Synthroid. Am not diabetic, and about 10-12 lbs. over my weight range which is normal for me during winter months.

Hi, thanks for the use of healthcare magic

Fungal rashes tend to occur in moist areas of the body such as the buttocks, in the groin, in the axilla and under the breasts.
It is likely that it started as a fungal infection and has been secondarily infected with bacteria (the pus lesions that you are seeing).
The sore bump may be a localized collection of pus, an abscess.

At this stage, your doctor will likely recommend the use of oral and topical medication.
If it is an abscess then it will have to be incised and drained.
You will likely be given a course of antibiotics and antibacterial and antifungal creams.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
