Child With Frequent Urination. Urinalysis Repoot Showed High Lecocytes And Protein. Ultrasound Came Normal
I wanted to ask about our 3 year old daughter who has started to pee more frequently. We took at home a urin analysis with the strip and this one showed medium higher lecocytes and somewhat higher protein. All the rest seemed to be negative (blood, glycose, etc). There are no other signs of illness e.g. Fever, tiredness, etc.
Last year we had an UTI which got treated. She got it after going to a swimming pool. Now after a year we went there again and again the same seems to start. Last year we also did ultrasound for kidneys and utinary tract and all was ok.
Please advise if this happening is something serious and sign of a serious underlying condition or would the solution be simply keeping away from the swimming pool?
With best regards

Thank you for posting a query.
Look, her urine strip test is indicative of Presence of WBCs / pus cells more than 5 / hpf, will be indicate presence of bacterial infection. Even, in case of some parasitic infection microscopical examination is diagnostic.
So, first of all, do the urine examination for a laboratory.
Secondly, you have to keep her away from that particular swimming pool.
Thirdly, consult with her treating doctor for starting broad spectrum antibiotic like cephalosporin group of drug.
Watch her for developing any fever, vomiting or any other symptoms. In those conditions, you have to give paracetamol and ondansetron group of drug respectively. You should also consult with her treating doctor immediately.
In case of recurrence of this problem, you have to consult with urologist for a detailed clinical examination and also for further management.
Hope this information suffices. Let me know, if you have any more questions.

Thank you for writing back.
Look, the pool is somehow connected with this problem.
In case of acute bacterial infection of urinary tract, protein may get increased. But, to rule out any other kidney disease , you have to do the urine examination first as i have told previously.
If that report indicates any abnormality, you have to do a 24 hour urinary protein estimation to rule out any possibility of other kidney diseases.
So, do the routine urine examination first. And keep following up with her treating doctor.
Hope, you have the answers.
Regards.
