Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Please do not worry. The tonsils are organs which are situated at the back of the throat, and form a part of the general immune system of the body and aid in block the entry of all viral and bacterial agents through the mouth. Since the tonsils are involved in the filtration of bacterial and viral pathogens, they are at times given to infection, in a condition known as tonsillitis, which is commonly seen in children.
The many types of viruses and bacteria like the streptococcus are the main agents that cause tonsillitis and its peculiar symptoms of a sore throat and inflammation in the glands. Getting chilled and cold from water, or being exposed to wet conditions in the course of a day can all increase vulnerability of the person to tonsillitis as the susceptibility of the body to the viruses or bacteria increases, therefore though tonsillitis in theory should almost affect everyone, but can become a serious condition only in relatively few children, this is due to the increased susceptibility of such children to the condition. Chronic tonsillitis can take a lot of time to heal, and this condition or stage of the tonsillitis can be reached by the incidence of repeated infections from pathogens or because of a neglected case of acute tonsillitis.
The most important thing to prevent recurrent tonsillitis is to improve the child's immunity through a well balanced diet and age appropriate immunisation .
Secondly hand washing and other hygiene measures are important for you g children who are constantly coming in contact of germs.
During an attack early treatment and plenty of fluids , multivitamin and zinc supplements are advised .
Many natural herbal remedies like lime juice with honey in warm water or turmeric milk or homeopathic preparations are also found to give relief in chronic cases of tonsillitis .
Taking a warm bath will not cause your child to be susceptible to tonsillitis however remaining chilled for prolonged period during bathing should be restricted .
Proper brushing and gargling when he is older will ensure good oral hygiene and prevent frequent attacks .
If still there are more than 5 episodes per year then tonsillectomy is the only permanent solution .
Hope I have answered your query.
Please let me know if you have any further doubts.
Regards
