Child Had Incomplete Root Canal Treatment. Now Having Pain. What To Do?

Question: Hello, My little son of 5yrs was advised Root Canal Treatment for one of his teeth in the lower jaw (3rd from the right) .Accordingly we got a second opinion also from a Kids Peadtrician dentist , who suggested either extraction or root canal treatment only.
And then when we took him there , they gave him Local Anaesthsia , it started with blowing , cleaning etc.. etc . but when the drilling part started , he literally refused to co-operate and became so stubborn that he would not allow the procedure to complete. this went on for 2 hrs atleast , but nobody could convince him to do the root canal treatment. Finally the next day the doctor just did a temporary filling and made him go . But in between he says it pains . please advise what can be done , should we go for tooth extraction or should we simply wait .

Detailed Answer:
Dear Jayasudha,
Thank you for the query. I sincerely understand your dilemma regarding your 5 year old son’s tooth problem. If he is getting mild pain you can take wait and watch policy. If he is getting moderate pain, you can give Paracetamol syrup [dosage same as when you give for fever], thrice daily for a day or two. If there is no relief with this / pain is severe then take him to dentist, where either he may prescribe the antibiotic or he may remove the temporary restoration to relieve the pain.
Meanwhile start brushing his teeth at least thrice daily [after getting up, after breakfast, after last food of the day]. If parents do the brushing kids teeth till the kid is 8-9 years most of the time decay may be prevented. Since your son was uncomfortable with the last dentist experience please give him the positive thoughts. At times kids open up easily with different doctors also!
Hope this clarification gives you relief; if you want ask anything further you are most welcome.
With happy regards,
