Can Yeast Infection Spread From Vagina To Anus?

default
Posted on Thu, 16 Jun 2016
Question: Can a yeast infection spread to the anus? I've started to notice that I may have a yeast infection (thick discharge and itchiness). I notice that sometimes I feel an itchiness and burning around my anus as well.

I was using wet wipes, shaved and then wore a thong all day. That gave me a case of infaitaogo. After research I found out that a lot of people that used those wipes (cottonelle) had an anal rash or yeast infection. I got some cream for the infaitaogo around my rectum and the rash is gone. I noticed the possible yeast infection aRound the same time. I also douches, wore right clothes and my boyfriend gave me oral a few days before. That could be the reason for the yeast infection. I'm just curious because even though my scab healed from the cream it is still a bit itchy and I get a light burning every once in a while. Is this normal?

Brief Answer:
Yes, yeast infection can spread to anus.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Dear,

Thanks for writing to us. Followings are my comments:

1) Yes, yeast infection can spread from vagina to anus and leads to itching with discomfort to some extent.

Anti-fungal cream (like Clotrimazole 1% etc) should be used around affected region. Single dose oral Cap Fluconazole (150 mg) is quite effective to treat this condition and helps to recover quickly.

2) If there is Impetigo type of skin infection, then you may feel light burning and itchiness around the affected area. Maintain genital hygiene and avoid unprotected sex until the problem is resolved completely. Keep the area dry and wear clean, cotton underwear.

In this case, you may need to take one course of antibiotic (like Amoxicillin and Clavulanate or Doxycycline etc) and Mupirocin like bactericidal ointment. They will give better result in Impetigo.

I suggest you to consult with your dermatologist for clinical examination and complete prescription. It will be more worthwhile.

Hope, I have answered your query. Wish your good health and take care.
