Can Polio Vaccination Be Administered From Another Place If Missed?

default
Posted on Wed, 12 Apr 2023
Question: Hello doctor,

My son is 10 months old. We are getting his vaccination administered as per the schedule regularly. However, we missed the Pulse Polio drive of 2018 which was only for 2 days: XXXXXXX 28 and Mar 11. Is it necessary that we get it administered from somewhere else or is it ok to no getting it administered?

Thanks & Regards,

Brief Answer:

No need to worry

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Let me assure you that in case you have missed the Pulse Polio Immunisation, you need not worry.

You just need to get the next Pulse Polio Immunisation when announced. It serves to impart herd immunity (when a lot of children are immunized at the same time).

Getting it administered from elsewhere is therefore inapplicable.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
