Can The Herpes Infection Be Transmitted Through Saliva?

Posted on Mon, 13 Jul 2015
Question: I had a recent sexual encounter and would like to know if I am at risk for contracting an STD. I received a lap dance from a stripper in which she spat on my penis and proceeded to give me a handjob. I have read a bit about herpes transmission, but I am still unclear if saliva can transmit the virus or other STDs.

Brief Answer:
Herpes can trsnsmit through saliva

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I have gone through your query and I understand your concern.

Saliva can certainly lead to transmission of herpes virus, specially if it comes in direct contact with the genital mucosal, as in your case.

HIV is not much of a risk through saliva.

Other STDs like syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia are less common possibilities as compared to herpes.
