Trichomonas infection of the vagina is often recurrent. This is because of several reasons.
1. The treatment taken is often incomplete. Prophylaxis is needed for a few more months. Also, proper genital hygiene is needed.
2. At menopause, the vaginal lining is thinned out and this increases the risk of infection.
3. Systemic causes like diabetes are another likely cause of such recurrent vaginoses.
4. Sexual intercourse should be avoided while symptoms persist and the infection is present.

Your husband need not necessarily be the cause. You can, however, have a couple evaluation and take necessary action.

A vaginal swab can be taken for culture and sensitivity and further management planned. Please do not use vaginal douche or strong soap solutions to clean the genital region. Instead, use mild antiseptic solution.

If vaginal atrophy is the underlying cause, you may be prescribed hormone supplements. This helps to prevent recurrences.
