Question: Good morning: My daughter is complaining of frequent urination and pain in the side and posterior. does this sound more like a bladder infection or is it getting to her kidneys. Would you recommend antibiotics or other treatment without a culture? thx

Brief Answer:
More fluids will help

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concerns.

This is urinary bladder infection and not extending to kidneys. This type of infection is commonly seen in couple after honeymoon. This is called "honeymoon Cystitis".

I suggest you make her drink more water and other fluids. She cam have cranberry juice also. This will help to ease infection slowly over a week.

As of now she does not need Urine culture test or antibiotics.

You can consider antibiotics if there is no relief after 4 days.

Let me know if you need anymore help.

I am concerned about the flank pain being a kidney infection. What would those symtoms be?

Brief Answer:
This is not kidney infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Kidney infection will have strong pain while passing urine with flank pain radiating to front. Ultrasound scan will show dilated ureters. The pain in flank would have been more continuous.

This is just bladder infection expected after honeymoon.
