Brief Answer:
Rubella in mother can cause congenital problems in baby

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir,
Thanks for writing in to us.

Rubella is a potentially dangerous infection if it happens during pregnancy. Medical research says that rubella infection in the mother can cause congenital rubella syndrome in the baby. The extent and magnitude of effect on the baby is variable and some babies might have mild manifestation and some can have major problems.

The risk of a baby developing congenital abnormalities due to infection of mother during pregnancy is 25 to 50 percent. The chances of abnormalities is greater if rubella infection happens before 12 weeks of pregnancy.

Some of the commonly associated problems found in babies with congenital rubella syndrome includes the following.
Deafness
Cataracts
Heart defects
Intellectual disabilities
Liver and spleen damage
Low birth weight
Skin rash at birth

It does not mean that every baby will have a problem but most of them can have.

It is important to discuss the rubella test details with the gynecologist who your wife is consulting regularly and that will help understand her situation clearly.

With decreasing rubella antibodies there is scope for a healthy pregnancy later.

Hope your query is answered.

Brief Answer:
No serious problems anticipated pending ultrasound scan

Detailed Answer:
Sir,
I have gone through the reports in detail.

Your wife is not having rubella infection now. Positive IgG for rubella means she is immune to the infection and is good for pregnancy.

My previous reply on rubella was for acute infection and kindly ignore that since your wife does not have any acute infection. Your baby is not having any risk of rubella infection.

In rest of the reports there is mild anemia and vitamin D insufficiency which can be improved by taking good food and nutrition with supplements.

It is important to do an ultrasound scan at this time to know development and any placenta or baby problems.

Other wise there is no serious impact on delivery of baby.

Hope your query is answered.
