Posted on Sat, 21 Jun 2014
Question: If radioactive seeds were "mistakenly" placed into my eardrums, as I did not have cancer, what is the likelihood that I will get cancer from these radioactive seeds? My whole body been feeling electrified, burning, heat, etc. I have been have nauseous, tremors, hairloss, vomiting, fatigue. Are they visible and most importantly, can they be removed?

Brief Answer:
If visible, they can be removed!!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this mistake in diagnosis that led to you receiving radioactive implants that were not necessary. The symptoms you have reported are typical of the radioactive treatment. These implants cannot cause cancer. It is very unlikely for them to cause cancer as the doses administered are minimal and would not be able to cause mutations.

For how long have you had these implants? Implants generally do not work for ever. check with your treating doctor to know the type and duration of the implant. These would be very important to make this decision on whether it is necessary to remove if they are still active or their activity is already very low.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thank you so much for using our services and feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

In addition to the implants, I also received hefty doses of radiation at a work lab. If in conjunction with the implants, is it then more likely to cause cancer?

And, are these implants visible to an ENT doctor?

Brief Answer:
Why don't you get protected during work?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this follow up precision.

High doses of uncontrolled radiation at work can be more concerning. A combination of both would make it more dangerous as the doses add up. You need to adhere strictly to the safety guidelines to make sure that you are not exposing yourself to any unnecessary further risk of irradiation.

These implants would be very superficial under the skin but not immediately visible to an ENT doctor. Please, talk to the doctor who implanted them for more precision on the site and depth for best management plan as regards these radioactive implants.

I hope this helps. feel free to request for more information and precision if need be.
