Can One Breastfeed After Undergoing A Biopsy Test?

default
Posted on Sat, 18 Feb 2017
Question: I had 2 skin shave biopsies today (one on the side of my left breast). I am breastfeeding. The dermatologist told me to pump and dump but didn't know how long I should wait before breastfeeding. How long do I need to wait before I can continue breastfeeding? Can I start feeding from the right side before the left since only the left received the injections?

Of course you can start breastfeeding from the opposite breast if lignocaine were used,

For shave biopsy the dose of lignocaine is not enough to cause any untoward effect on the feeding child.
It is a category B drug and can be safely used in pregnancy too.

Nevertheless half life of lidocaine is 1.5 hour so at the end of 6 hour following procedure more than 95 % of the drug is eliminated from the circulation.

Hope it helps
