Can Migraine Cause Mood Swings?

Question: Sir/Ma'am,
This is in relation to my wife. Just to give you a background on her medical history - she is generally low on BP and has been diagnosed to have migraine too. She is currently under homeopathic medication for her migraine.
Since around an year now, I have been noticing mood swings with her. Initially I thought that this was mostly concentrated around her monthly menstrual cycle, but no - it has gone beyond and continues for almost the complete month now.
During such episodes she would generally start thinking about all the negative things that happened to her specially some of the things that have happened in our life. We have been married for 4 years now and we have a 3 year old daughter. Ours was a proper arranged marriage. She was married when she was 21 and she is 25 now. A few things that have happened in our life, she thinks that I did them with some reason because she was the one who was effected by it. In fact, those things happened because of some circumstance or the other actually. Even after apologizing for such things multiple times, she is unable to remove it from her mind.
She would be normal and then all of a sudden she would start thinking about such things. For example, during weekends when we generally go out, she is very normal. But when we return, especially during night she would again start thinking about those things and her mood would change. This has happened even during morning when she has many times woken up with such thoughts in her mind and then she would not get out of bed for a very long time. I have seen such mood swings happen even when she sees some images (for example from whatsapp - could be of my brother taking his wife for apple plucking) or hears some phrases.
To try and change this mood of hers, we even went for an outing of 2 days. She was very happy at that time and I thought the problem we never reoccur, but it did. Merely after two weeks she started going into her mood swings again. She tries to reason with me for the old things. Even when I give my reason (as being because of circumstances) she would never accept and start arguing. I have tired all means, I have tried to keep quite and I have also tried to reason, but nothing helps. At times she would also show violent behavior (this has happened for 4-5 times now).
She has actually decided to come for a counselling with me next week with a family counsellor (Psychologist). She actually thinks that the psychologist will extract the reason from me. On the other hand, I am taking her there to help her.
From the facts stated above, would you be able to come to a conclusion on what the problem could be? Even I am a little uneasy about facing a psychologist directly and hence thought I should write to you before I take her.
Any guidance would be helpful.

Regards,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
It seems adjustment disorder with anxiety features

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

First of all I must acknowledge that diagnosis in emotional health and mental health is never easy when you have inadequate information. Talking to the patient for few minutes is the most vital source of information and unfortunately that is missing here because of geographical distance.

Having said this I feel she does not have any major psychiatric disorder but the possibility of adjustment disorder can not be ruled out with prominence of anxiety features. As the name suggests the person finds it difficult to adjust with certain situations or behavior in her vicinity.

I understand your fear about seeing a psychologist but I do not think you need to worry. His job is to understand psyche of both of you and suggest accordingly. He is not the one who is going to judge you but correct the things in right manner.

I hope this helps you.
