Can Imuran Usage Lead To Black Stools?

Question: I was taking Imuran. After a few days I started doing Black stools and it occurred several times a day. Checking side effects I was told to stop taking Imuran and tell my Dr. He tried to tie it to some thing else. I stopped taking Imuran and I was back to normal 4 hrs. Answer?

I read your case and you are absolutely right in thinking that it is imuran which causes black stool. This happens due to minor bleeding in stomach which become black due to acid present in stomach.
It is not a serious side effect though and you can continue taking this medicine. I would recommend you to add pantaprazole tablet along with this. This tablet will help in decreasing acidity.
