Brief Answer:
Yes, it can cause itching all over the body

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Mast cells , in connective tissue and basophils ( white blood cell) contain histamine, a defense against infectious agents entering the body. When released inappropriately or in too high an amount, histamine is a potentially harmful and lethal substance. Yes, systemic reactions causing itching all over the body are possible especially if initial sensitization has lead to Ig E binding on the mast cells and basophils. Exposure to allergens like pollen, latex, foods like peanut allergies, and drugs ( penicillin, co trimoxazole) can lead to histamine release among other mediators of inflammation causing capillary dilatation all over the body and can potentially lead to anaphylaxis and anaphylactic shock.

thanks

Thanks for your reply. I think I had a large amount of histomine release after a fracel treatment on my face, neck, and around my eyes. Or potentially an allergic reaction to the numbing creamed they used on my face and neck prior to treatment. The day after fraxel I began itching on my palms and soles of feet then I began itching everywhere. I also have a warm/inflamed feeling in my body, mostly my chest. The following day I woke up feeling very weak and lacking strength. The symtoms are lessening, but I'm stilling feeling minor itching and a warm inflamed feeling in my body, mostly my chest, and Im not feeling weak and fatigued anymore though. I took my temperature today and it was 99.8... My usual temp is much lower. I also had botox in my forehead, around my eyes, and in my neck bands the day before (I've had it done multiple times before)... Only the second on my neck band though. Not sure if it could be related, but thought I should mention it just incase it could be. How long does it usually take for symtoms to go away after a large histomine release or an allergic reaction. Is there anything I need to do in the meantime? Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Antihistamine and corticosteroids, 24 to 48 hours

Hello and Welcome

One cant quantify the amount of histamine released, i.e large or small based on the description. However the events you described make an allergic reaction having high likelihood. A mild to moderate rash and pruritis would usually be recurrent and may subside in the next 24 to 48 hours. It may also progress to a persistent form that would require immediate medication. Usually in an E.R setting, I would advise an antihistamine and corticosteroid shot and put the patient on oral antihistamines for at least two weeks. You should consult your doctor to decide upon the treatment based on your clinical presentation.
