Can High Cholesterol Levels Elevate C-reactive Protein Levels?
Question: Hi I recently had a life line screening done and one of the blood tests was for c- reactive protein. Mine was 1.2 mg/l. How concerning is that? How elevated is that? Could it be because I have high cholesterol? Everything else came back pretty normal besides high cholesterol and over weight. I’m a 39 male. I’m always worried about cancer because of family history. What would levels be for cancer?

Hi,
CRP rise indicates chronic inflammation and good sensitive parameter. The rise is marginal and certainly has an average risk for some disease than those who have normal CRP.
Since you have high cholesterol and obese, it can be attributed to them. Fat is breeding ground for inflammation. However, sadly it does not say the site of inflammation.
I suggest working on reducing CRP by eating natural, ideal diet and exercise.
Retest it after 3 months.

Thanks for getting back to me. Would you see my level let’s say if I had liver cancer? Or some other cancer?

In all my patients I start to look for cancer testing if they go over 3 mg in case of history in the family.
So I don't suggest now but repeated measures better.
