Can Hiatal Hernia Cause Stomach Lumps To Form?

default
Posted on Sat, 7 Oct 2017
Question: I am a 64 year old woman in excellent health. I can feel a lump to left of my stomach around the hiatal area after I eat. I was told a long time ago that I had a small hiatal hernia but never had any problems with it. I do have an appointment to see a provider on Monday. I have normal bowel moments and no nausea. If I press on the area after a meal it is painful. But at other times, I don't feel it and there is no pain when I apply pressure. I don't see anywhere that you can see or feel a hiatal hernia - is this possible? Is waiting until Monday OK or should I seek help through urgent care?

Brief Answer:
Possible epigastric hernia, can wait till Monday easily without worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,

Welcome to HealthcareMagic,
I have evaluated your query thoroughly.

* This may be possible epigastric hernia rather than a hiatus hernia though final
confirmation needs clinical examination with ultrasound report.

* As there are no other alarming signs as vomiting or intensely severe pain,
there is no need to rush to ER, can wait till Monday.

* Suggestions till then:

- Drink liquids in more amount at intervals.
- Consume soft, light diet at intervals.
- Avoid more oily, spicy, junk food, dairy fat till doctor visit.
- Remain ambulatory.

Hope this will help you.
Welcome for any further assistance.

Wishing you fine recovery.
Regards
