Question: I was diagnosed with hepatitis C in 2008. I've had many PCR test since, which are all negative, but still have antibodies. doctors described this as the trace the illness leaves. in summary, do I still have the virus, and can, or will it reemerge given the above mentioned?

Brief Answer:
If PCR is negative you have no active infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for choosing HealthcareMagic for your query.
See a virus is an antigen( a foreign protein) for our body.
In response to this attack by foreign protein a large amount of anti viral proteins are produced by body( usually in extremely large amounts).
So these antibodies may persist for even years after infection.
So you doctor is correct they are all residual antibodies.

Thanks!

Brief Answer:
Follow up.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,
See
PCR is used to reproduce (amplify) selected sections of DNA or RNA for analysis. So if PCR is negative it means that there are no viral proteins inside you body.
So yes virtually and clinically you are viral free.

Thanks.
